Do I have to buy the ps2 game of ffxi or can I download it from PSn on ps3 and be able to play online?

Was just wondering if I had to buy the PS2 game and then play it on, or if I could download it off of the Playstation Network and have it come with all the expansions.
Update:
Edit: Would the PS2 System Data that I downloaded on my 320 GB PS3 allow me to play it if I bought the PS2 game disk?

  1. PS2 games are not currently available on the PSN Store, so you can’t buy FF XI from the PSN Store.

If you want to play FF XI on a PS3, you will need to buy the game disc. You will also need a backward compatible PS3 (20GB, 60GB, or Limited Edition 80GB MotorStorm or MGS4 Bundle), and will need to download the “PS2 System Data” from the PSN Store in order to play FF XI on a backward compatible PS3 (PS2 System Data allows you to play PS2 games that require an HDD, specifically FF XI, it does not allow non-backward PS3s to play PS2 games).

    *EDIT*

As stated above, the PS2 System Data does NOT allow non-backward PS3s to play PS2 games. This means it will not let your 320GB PS3 non-backward compatible PS3 play PS2 games. The only thing the PS2 System Data does is allow PS2 games that require an HDD to play (specifically FF XI), be able to play on the PS3 (it allows FF XI to use the PS3 HDD instead of needing the PS2 HDD). It will allow other games that use the HDD (such as PS2 Socom games) to use the PS3s HDD as well, but you still need a backward compatible PS3.

If you buy the PS2 FF XI game disc, you will need a PS2 and the PS2 HDD, or you will need a backward compatible PS3 with the PS2 System Data.
